Course Description:

First in a series of three courses, Introduction to NJ REAL will serve as a primer to addressing the intersection of sustainability, climate, and contaminated site remediation and redevelopment issues in the State of New Jersey, particularly with respect to contaminated site remediation and redevelopment sites and the role of site remediation professionals.

Through State of New Jersey Executive Orders and legislation (e.g. NJ Protection Against Climate Threats or NJ PACT), the NJDEP has embarked on a rulemaking process encompassing many of its programs in order to address climate resilience, adaptation and mitigation (e.g. through goals of carbon emissions reduction). The NJ REAL proposed rule, as well as the Inland Flood Rule which preceded it, will modify a range of DEP programs that affect LSRPs and the remediation and redevelopment process in general. The extent and breadth of the rule are significant and will have important impacts on the redevelopment and contaminated site redevelopment process.

This first presentation will provide:

• Impact on LSRP / Contaminated Site Remediation Redevelopment Projects
• Sustainability, ESG, and NJ REAL
