With the passage of the SRRA amendment, GSR has emerged as a beneficial approach that optimizes all phases of site remediation, from site investigation to project closeout. LSRPs will benefit from learning about these tools which are used to measure the environmental footprint of remedial alternatives in terms of sustainability metrics during remediation. The NJDEP's John Doyon, a course instructor, is the Team Leader of the ITRC Sustainable and Resilient Remediation Guidance Committee. ITRC is working on a new update to their 2011 Guidance that looks to expand its emphasis on social and economic factors including environmental justice, as well as the resilience of the remedy to the effects of the elements, including climate change. The Program reviews useful quantitative Green and Sustainable Remediation (GSR) tools and their use. Attendees will gain an understanding of the tools available to them; some of which have been only informally communicated to the regulated community by the NJDEP, including:
