Description:

In order to meet remedial action timeframes, LSRPs and environmental professionals select, design, and implement remedial actions. The remedial action workplan process is intended to ensure that the selected remediation technology is adequate to treat impacted media, and that potential negative impacts do not occur as a result. In-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), chemical reduction (ISCR), bioremediation and air sparging (AS) all can successfully remediate site impacts; however, care must be taken to implement these technologies correctly, as designed, and in careful consideration of the synergies that may be created by injecting or extracting fluids/gasses or chemical reagents interacting with the subsurface. This presentation will discuss unintended negative consequences potentially associated with common remediation technologies to help attendees determine that the “right” remedial technology can be implemented without negatively impacting sensitive receptors.
