As the summer drew to a close, more than 120 LSRPA members and competitors faced the challenge of the Association’s first cornhole competition at Jenkinson’s North Inlet Bar. And, if cornhole wasn’t your bag, the competitors also enjoyed drinks, networking and fireworks - all for a good cause.

So, what is cornhole? You might know it by other names like bean bag or bean toss. According to the American Cornhole Association (yes, it exists), cornhole is played on a court about 8-10 feet wide and at least 40 feet long. Players toss a bag made of two 6.25-inch squares of fabric filled with two cups of corn feed into a six-inch hole cut into a two-foot by four-foot board. The player who tosses the most bags through the hole is the winner. Simple and yet difficult.

At the August 26th event, 56 teams competed. LSRPA board member Joe Postorino and a member of the Cornhole Committee (yes, it exists) said the winners of the competition, Cole Rex and Alec Zeoli of Environmental Waste Minimization Inc. won the competition, which included a trophy and $100 gift cards to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk. Christopher Seib of Whitestone Associates won the raffle held on site and a New Jersey Shore-themed cornhole set.

The event also raised about $10,000 for the LSRPA Foundation, which awards scholarships to deserving undergraduates and graduate students looking to enter the environmental field in New Jersey.
